Thanks to the operating experience of the surPLUShome in Washington D.C. we know al little, what will happen now … assembling the building modules will be fast … after that, the details will require more time. But like last time, the fast assembly of the building modules is a good motivation for all further work!
Early in the morning the modules of our surPLUShome arrived in Essen. We will assemble the house untill April, 19th and than show it as part of the European Capital of Culture in 2010 (Ruhr 2010) in which many events combine social and cultural visions throughout the year. Be invited to visit the house in the town center of Essen, Burgplatz next to the cathedral.
The work on the book was hard. We spend a lot of time and more than that nerves on the books quality. As reward, it is as well in english and in german …

Bombastic!
Team Germany was honored at the ZukunftBau Kongress (FutureBuilding convention) by the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS): Rainer Bomba. The convention was integrated in the Bautec exhibition in Berlin. So we took a side trip, joined the night life of Berlin and especially the Berlinale and met some of Solar Decathlon 2010 Europe Teams. By the way we had a guided tour in the Federal Chancellery Building, organized by Hans-Dieter Hegner, Building Director of the BMVBS.

Finally our three containers arrived at Essen, the city where our house will be set up in April next year. We had to sort and unpack a lot of our equipment.
Today Team Germany is traveling to Berlin. We are invited to the BMWi.
The Solar Decathlon is an international competition run by the U. S. Department of Energy. The aim is to build a Zero Energy Home, which produces as much energy from renewable sources, as it consumes. Just like the Olympic decathlon this competition consists of 10 contests that center on all of the ways in which we use energy in our daily lives. The 10 contests are: Architecture, Market Viability, Engineering, Lighting design, Communications, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, Appliances, Home Entertainment and Net Metering. 20 teams of college and university students participate in the Solar Decathlon 2009, among them one team from Germany from Darmstadt University of Technology.
